Update on Ayman Sharawna

 The mother of jailed hunger striker Ayman Sharawna today said she started her own hunger strike after her appeals to governments and organizations failed.

"What can I say when my son has been on hunger strike for eight months? No one listens and no one sees. What they are waiting for? To see my son dead?" Ayman Sharawna's mother said from a hospital bed in Hebron.

The prisoner's 63-year-old mother started a hunger strike on Saturday, and collapsed Sunday at a solidarity tent near her home in Hebron.

Hunger Strike Update

Israeli authorities have hospitalized three Palestinians on hunger strike today, 2/22/2013

Ayman Sharawna, Jaafar Azzidine and Tareq Qaadan were transferred from Ramle prison to hospitals in Israel for medical tests.

Azzidine and Qaadan, who were taken to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, have been on hunger strike for 87 days in protest at their administrative detention, without charge or trial.

Sharawna went on hunger strike on July 1, 2012, but briefly stopped on Dec. 23 after believing there were developments in his case, prisoner rights group Addameer says. He restarted the strike in January.

Like Samer Issawi, who has been on hunger strike for 215 days, Sharawna was rearrested after being granted amnesty in the Oct. 2011 prisoner swap deal between Israel and Hamas. Israel's military judiciary is seeking to cancel their amnesty and reinstate their former sentences.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▶ The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns the Israeli Navy's attacks against Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip and expresses its deep concern for such escalation, which resulted in injuring two fishermen and partially damaging their boat yesterday .

According to PCHR's investigations, at approximately 09:00 on Thursday, 21 February 2013, at, two Israeli gunboats attacked a Palestinian fishing boat, boarding 3 fishermen, sailing 3 nautical miles off al-Waha Resourt shore in the northern Gaza Strip.

The Israeli soldiers fired directly at the boat. As a result, a fisherman, Ayman ‘Adnan Kabaja, 37, from Gaza City, was wounded by a rubber-coated metal bullet to the left hand. Additionally, the fishing boat, which belongs to ‘Abdullah Mohammed al-‘Absi, from Gaza City, was damaged.

It should be noted that this incident occurred at 3 nautical miles, which is within the 6-nautical-mile limit allowed by the Israeli forces for the Palestinian fishermen to sail and fish at, under the terms of the truce deal signed between Israel and the Palestinian armed groups under Egyptian and international auspices on 22 November 2012.

PCHR condemns the continuous Israeli attacks against Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip, and:

1- Calls for immediately stopping the policy of chasing and arresting Palestinian fishermen, and allowing them to sail and fish freely;

2- Demands compensation for the fishermen for the physical and material damage caused to them and their property as a result of these violations;

3- Calls upon the international community, including the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of war, to intervene immediately to stop the Israeli violations against the Palestinian fishermen, and to allow them to sail and fish freely in the Gaza Sea.
