ISRAEL ARRESTED TWO PALESTINIANS IN WEST BANK RAIDS .

The Israeli army detained at least six Palestinians from cities and towns across the occupied West Bank early yesterday,

Soldiers raided the house of 20-year-old Walid Mohammed Ajouli in the village of Qaffin north of Tulkarem, detaining him on the scene. The detainee’s family said Walid had heart problems.

An army spokeswoman said six Palestinians were detained overnight.

One was detained in Nablus, two in Bizzariya, north of Nablus, two in Ayda refugee camp in Bethlehem, and one in Surif, southwest of Bethlehem,

Meanwhile an Israeli unit attacked dozens of Palestinians protesting against Israel's dumping waste in a landfill in the city of Nablus.

Soldiers arrived at the landfill and forced a complete evacuation of the area, before firing stun grenades and tear gas against protesters, and arresting 13-year-old Mohammad Munther Solaiman.

Protesters were demanding Israel shut down the site because the waste comes from Israeli territory and its contents are unknown. Protesters said it risked harming the environment.

An army spokeswoman said 40 Palestinians hurled rocks at soldiers who responded with riot-dispersal means. She was unaware of the reports of an arrest.

Israel mistreats Palestinian children in custody

Palestinian children detained by the Israeli military are subject to widespread, systematic ill-treatment that violates international law,

The United Nations Children Fund estimated that 700 Palestinian children aged 12-17, most of them boys, are arrested, interrogated and detained by the Israeli military, police and security agents every year in the occupied West Bank.

UNICEF said it had identified some examples of practices that "amount to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention against Torture".

15 prisoners rearrested since Shalit deal

Israel has rearrested 15 Palestinians released in the October 2011 prisoner exchange with Hamas,

The latest detainee to be rearrested is Omar Abu Haniyeh, a 21-year-old from Qalqiliya,

Israel was disrespecting its agreements with Egypt, which brokered the prisoner swap in which Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was freed.

Israel's use of military order 1651, under which a military committee can cancel a prisoner's amnesty based on secret charges and evidence that even the detainee's lawyer is not permitted to see.

A Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem was forced to demolish his own home in Jerusalem’s Old City

A Palestinian resident of occupied East Jerusalem was forced to demolish his own home in Jerusalem’s Old City in order to avoid high fines that would be imposed on him should the Jerusalem Municipality demolish the home after it ruled that the property was constructed without a permit.

Daoud Sa’id, the owner of the property, stated that he demolished his own 60 square/meter home, located in Bab Hatta in the Old City, in order to avoid an 80.000 New Israeli Shekels (NIS) fine. (More than $21.000).

Sa’id added that he built his home 11 years ago without a construction permit as the City Council kept rejecting his applications, and that he recently paid the District Court more than 32.000 NIS (Approximately $8.500) when he filed an appeal against the destruction of his property, but the appeal was denied.

“Now after they have demolished our home, my family and I have to live in a tent, “he said, “I’m still worried the Jerusalem Municipality would impose more fines on me”.

"My health has deteriorated greatly, but I will continue my hunger strike until victory or martyrdom. This is my last remaining stone to throw at the tyrants and jailers in the face of the racist occupation that humiliates our people."

Issawi called on the British government to impose sanctions on Israel until it ends its occupation of Palestinian land, recognizes Palestinian rights and frees all political prisoners.

"Israel could not continue its oppression without the support of western governments," Issawi wrote, noting the historic responsibility of the UK "for the tragedy of my people."

Israel still uses British Mandate laws to oppress Palestinians, Issawi said, adding that British Mandate authorities sentenced his grandfather to death.

Israeli forces killed Issawi's 16-year-old brother in 1994 and have imprisoned four of his other brothers and his sister, Issawi said, as well as demolishing his brother's home and cutting off his mother's water and electricity.

"My family, along with the people of my beloved city Jerusalem, are continuously harassed and attacked, but they continue to defend Palestinian rights and prisoners."

Issawi was arrested on July 7 and accused of violating the terms of his release under a prisoner swap by leaving Jerusalem.

HEBRON -- A 27-year-old man was found hanged yesterday in his apartment in Sinjer, a small village in the southern West Bank,

the death was being treated as a suicide but that an autopsy would be performed to confirm the cause of death.

Police found the man's body on the balcony of his apartment,

GAZA CITY

GAZA CITY -- The Hamas government in Gaza will launch a campaign this week to crack down on collaborators with Israel,

"This week we are going to launch an intensive campaign to catch all agents collaborating with Israel in the Gaza Strip," Muhammad Lafi, an interior ministry official, said.

The number of people providing information to Israel has decreased over recent years due to initiatives by Hamas to uncover collaborators and offer rehabilitation programs to those who confess their crimes,

"We monitor the tools and techniques used by the Israeli occupation to recruit collaborators and we are working to dismantle them," the senior Hamas official said.

The government is in contact with people across the Gaza Strip to help clamp down on people passing information to Israel's security services.

Palestinian collaboration with Israel is an extremely sensitive issue in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with information passed to Israel's security services often being used to make arrests and assassinate political and militant figures.

Gaza courts have handed out 30 death sentences since 2007, many of them to people convicted of helping Israeli security forces.

NABLUS

NABLUS -- Israeli settlers erected a new outpost on Sunday on a hilltop east of Nablus, a Palestinian Authority said.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank, said residents of the Elon Moreh settlement installed 10 mobile homes in Ras Hazim fields, a few hundred meters from Deir al-Hatab village.

Settlers used bulldozers to dig a road to Ras Hazim,

Said farmers would no longer be able to access 100 acres of private Palestinian land.

All settlements are illegal under international law. Settlement outposts are also illegal under Israeli law.

Three Palestinian prisoners in Israel's Ofer jail have started hunger strike action, a PA lawyer said Saturday.

Muhammad Amjad al-Najjar, Abdullah al-Asis and Ibrahim al-Shikh Khalil began strike action three days ago, Palestinian Authority lawyer Ibrahim al-Araj said.

JERUSASLEM, -- Worshippers and students atthe Aqsa mosque were infuriated today when an Israeli officer kicked a copy of the holy Quran with his foot.

a fistfight broke out between Israeli policemen and students who were protesting the Jewish settlers’ storming of the holy site.

They said that the officer was participating in the police attempt to forcibly evacuate those students and kicked the copy of the holy Quran in the process.

ARAFAT JARADAT

Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat, who died last week days after he was detained by Israeli forces, died in an interrogation room in Megiddo prison known for holding informers,

In a report made public Saturday, the ministry detailed that Jaradat was detained on Feb. 18 and went through a tough interrogation process at a Shin Bet facility in Jalameh detention center.

"He was tortured savagely and was put under psychological pressure on suspicion that he threw stones at Israeli troops," the report said.

"Then he was moved to an interrogation facility in Megiddo (the "stool pigeons" room) for further investigation because he wouldn't admit to the charges at Jalameh. Two days after he was moved, he was murdered."

The ministry’s report described the "stool pigeons' room" as the most dangerous arm Israeli intelligence services turn to when interrogating Palestinian detainees.

"Prisoners are beaten, tortured, blackmailed and threatened in that room in the absence of any watchdog."

The report added: "Israeli courts and intelligence services rely on the results of investigations conducted in informer rooms without questioning and scrutinizing the interrogation methods used in these rooms."
