A SOUTH AFRICAN MAN KILLED IN SYRIA

▬▬                                                       member of the South African delegation who on Tuesday left Cape Town to take aid to Syria has been killed in a car accident on their way to Azaaz, close to the Turkish border, while three other members of the group were injured. This was confirmed by the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) at 9pm on Friday. According to MJC president, Maulana Igsaan Hendricks, one of their members, Haji Mustafa Wilson of Mitchells Plain had been fatally injured in the accident.

He categorically denied social media messages currently doing the rounds claiming that the group had been shot at. "It is a tragedy that someone has died and the last thing we want to do is add to the rumour mill with unfounded allegations," said. He was responding to a BBM message that was circulated, claiming that Wilson had been "martyred" after the group allegedly came under fire in Syria.

According to Hendricks, the Darul Islam Institute delegation had travelled to Syria under the auspices of the MJC and with the co-operation of the IHH, the largest Turkish humanitarian organisation providing relief in the region. "The delegation had divided into two after leaving Cape Town with Sheik Irfaan Abrahams leading his group to refugee camps in Jordan. The second group, under the leadership of MJC secretary general, Ml Abdul Khaliq Allie, headed for Turkey and today crossed over to Syria by car. Fortunately, the women in the delegation remained behind in Turkey."
